My favourite so far in my re-read. Always loved the witches. The witches reminded me so much of certain relatives of mine - guess I never really appreciated that when I first read it growing up. So many genuinely laugh out loud moments.
Die Geschichte braucht etwas Zeit um ordentlich in Bewegung zu kommen. Das Buch beinhaltet Anspielungen auf Shakespears Macbeth und Hamlet, daher auch der deutsche Titel MacBest. Leider ging hiervon einiges an mir vorbei und irritierte mich eher. Ein übergreifendes Thema des Buches ist die Vermischung von Fiktion und Wirklichkeit, werden Dinge wahr, wenn sie nur glaubwürdig genug erzählt werden? Terry Pratchett greift hier bekannte Märchen und Erzählungen auf und betrachtet diese aus einem anderen Blickwinkel. Genauso nimmt er aber auch Bezug auf Propaganda und öffentliche Meinungsbildung, sowie die britische Nostalgie zur Monarchie.
